Plano, TX. June 11, 2016 – With 101 registered participants, CUMC takes home the “Largest Religious Team” award at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure event in Plano on June 11, 2016. Members of the CUMC team included various supporters as well as breast cancer survivors Constance Lynch, Margaret Greene and Pauline Bailey. CUMC member Pauline Bailey took home the title of ‘Oldest Survivor’ at the age 92, a breast cancer survivor for over 40 years.
Missy Wilkson, the event coordinator, says “It truly was an amazing day to come together as a congregation to celebrate survivors and honor those we have lost to breast cancer. . . Today we literally walked out Psalm 133 : we are indeed “better together” as we take huge strides forward to eradicate this disease.”
The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure event raises awareness and funds for the breast cancer movement. Money raised by the event goes to support local programs that help educate the public about breast cancer and a smaller percentage goes to fund grants focused on cancer research.
