Annual Conference for the North Texas Conference of UMC is upon us: June 4-6, 2017. This year, the Conference will gather at First UMC Richardson. Our church sends several representatives as voting members of the Conference, as do all other churches in the North Texas Conference. This event is where all matters of the Conference are updated, reported, proposed, and voted upon by members of the AC.
There are two traditional and meaningful worship services each year. On Sunday night (June 4th), the group recognizes retirees and memorializes those who have passed during the year. And, on Monday night (June 5th), the Conference members commission or ordain the new or provisional members into the Conference.
This year, three CUMC individuals being commissioned: Mike Flynn, Tami Gallaway, and Cathy Sweeney. Anyone is welcome to attend the service in person – it begins on June 5, at 7pm. We will also open Trinity Hall for a potluck dinner, starting at 6pm, and project a livestream of the service on the screens. Because of the large number of commissionees and ordinands this year, we encourage you to arrive at least 1 hour early; it will be crowded.
For the potluck, we are fortunate to have Pat Beghtel Mahle, retired elder and district superintendent, and Jerry Mahle, retired licensed local pastor, to participate as hosts. They will prepare you for what will happen in the service, the significance of certain events, and also be prepared to answer questions about the process and standing, should individuals at the potluck have questions.
