Resource Books

The library has a great number of resource materials to help you grow in faith and understanding of the Bible. It doesn't matter if you are an average person or biblical scholar, whether you are looking for a deeper understanding, reading the Bible for your own enjoyment, struggling with a particularly complex passage, or you simply want to gain insight into a beautiful Bible song -- the our library has the right resource book to fit your needs. In addition to dictionaries, handbooks and maps, here are just a few resources that are part of the library collection:

The Daily Study Bible Series by William Barclay

This classic series furnishes a comprehensive commentary and devotional study guide for ministers, teachers, students, or lay persons who want to discover what the New Testament writers said and what their messages mean for today.

Basic Bible Commentary

This series offers teachers and students a concise yet rich resource for increasing biblical understanding. Based on the NRSV and NIV Bible translations, this series covers every book systematically and verse by verse. Each volume includes maps, charts, a pronunciation guide, and glossary. Twenty-nine volumes cover the Old and New Testaments.

Interpretation: Bible Commentary for Teaching and Preaching

This twenty-volume series is intended for those who interpret the Bible in the church. They were planned and written specifically for teaching and preaching needs. The series offers a full interpretation of biblical text, combining historical scholarship and theological purpose. It brings an understanding of what the text says into dialogue with the critical questions and problems of modern life and faith.

The New Interpreter's Bible

There are several key features common to each of the twelve volumes of this series: 1) introductory articles for each book are provided that discuss historical background, cultural setting and more,  2) each volume includes a two-column, parallel translation of the biblical text (NIV & NRSV), and 3) commentaries that look at the passages as a whole, as well as, verse by verse.
