Adult Ministry and EducationThere are a number of ways to get involved at Christ United Methodist Church (CUMC) through our various Adult Ministries programs. Bible study groups, Sunday school classes, Mom's groups and singles groups are just a small sample of what we have to offer. Please see the information below for more details about these various groups. We hope you will find one to visit this week! Adult Sunday SchoolThe core of the Adult Ministry revolves around Sunday school. There are 22 Sunday school classes to choose from. Regardless of where you are in life, there's a small group or Sunday school class for you. Our Sunday school classes are one of the great strengths of our church. By joining a caring, supportive small group, you become more involved in the life of the church. Whatever class you choose, it will be a fun, faith-building experience as each one is designed to meet a variety of needs and expectations. We offer classes at 8:45, 9:45 and 11:00 a.m. Visit our Sunday school class web pages for more information on each class, including upcoming events and topics. Please click here to view a list all of the Sunday school classes offered at CUMC. For the remainder of the week, it is not unusual to find singles getting together to have dinner, see a movie, participate in dance lessons or to have a casual night in a class member’s home. Each class supports a CUMC mission project and participates in other small groups as well. Dave Ramsey’s “Financial Peace” Class Begins on Monday, September 20 at 7pm!God wants the very best for our life, and expects every area of your life to bring God glory. Our finances can be a wonderful tool for helping others and living out God’s purposes for life. Unfortunately, sometimes our “stuff” gets the best of us and we find ourselves being overwhelmed with responsibility and debt.
Financial Peace University (FPU) is a Biblically-based accountability curriculum that teaches how to make the right decisions with your money. FPU is a 13-week video series designed to get you out of debt and stay out of debt. During the 13 weeks the average participant reduces their debt by $5,300 and saves $2,700. More importantly FPU helps free you from the burdens of finances and empowers you to do great things with your money.
Class Details:
1. How often do the classes meet? There are 13 class two-hour sessions that meet once a week usually in the evenings. Please contact Liz Turner (liz@cumc.com) to make a reservation for childcare.
2. How long is each class session? Each class is two hours, and each is independent of the others.
Part One, taught by Dave Ramsey on DVD, teaches you how to make wise financial decisions based on Scripture.
Part Two of each class session is a small-group discussion. The design of the discussion groups helps you apply the principles to your daily life. Members hold each other accountable, build friendships, and support one another. Since personal finance is 80% behavior, this small-group format ensures that class members realize finance is more than just math.
3. What is the average size of the class? The video portion of the class is unlimited. However, during the discussion time, we will break into groups of 12-20 people, plus a coordinator, for each small group. In the past, the overall class sizes have ranged from 15-25 people.
4. If I miss one class, can I make it up? Terry and Deb Scott can work with you to make up that lesson by allowing you to take the video lesson home with you, as long as you return it the following class.
5. What is included in the FPU Membership Kit?
As part of your enrollment package, you will receive:
6. How many classes do I need to attend in order to graduate? You must attend 12 of the 13 classes to qualify for the graduation certificate.

8. When will the first class start? Monday, September 20 at 7pm and will lead by Terry and Deb Scott.
9. Can class members get additional assistance, if needed? For more detailed assistance, Dave Ramsey Certified Counselors offer discounts for one-on-one counseling. For more information on counseling, see the financial counseling section of FPU’s website.
10. Who benefits from this program? Everyone truly benefits from this program regardless of your age or income, being single, married or a single parent!
11. How much does this program cost? Church families pay for the FPU Membership Kit. Every family must purchase a Membership Kit. Visit the online store at www.daveramsey.com for more details and to purchase kit. To ensure Membership Kit is received in time order at least two weeks before your class begins. If you do not receive your kit prior to the first class, that is okay, still be present for the first session. In addition, there is a $15 class charge, which pays for the leader materials, child care, etc.
12. Who can attend with my Financial Peace membership? Your spouse and teens living in the home.
13. Is there a refund if I do not like the program? Dave Ramsey’s guarantee is simply this: "If you do it, it works! If you don't do it, it won't work! If you work the program, you won't want your money back. If you don't work the program, you don't get your money back.”
14. How do I enroll? Contact Sheila Rowan (sheila@cumc.com) or 972.596.4303.

Small groups meet weekly to study the Bible. This is the perfect opportunity to explore the Bible and your own spiritual journey. Both short-term (8 - 10 weeks) and long-term (32 - 34 weeks) courses will be offered. Classes will begin in September.
