Loving God, Serving Others ... Transforming Lives

Building with a PurposeWhy Build Green? When the building committee of Christ United Methodist Church (CUMC) began visioning the new sanctuary in 2007, it was decided that the place where we worship must be a reflection of our own stewardship of God's creation. As God has given to us, so must we act responsibly in conserving the resources we have been given. Building sustainably is our way of caring for God's creation and preserving it for future generations. We also hope that as the congregation and community see the efforts of CUMC, it will provide education and motivation for others to do the same. Though the physical building itself has a purpose of allowing more persons to worship with us and incorporating more exciting ministries, the way we are building also has a purpose - to be responsible stewards of the earth, and preserve it for future generations.
What is LEED?LEED is an acronym for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and an internationally recognized green building certification system. It has a 69 point rating system, based on the sustainable attributes achieved in the areas of water efficiency, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, material use and site use. Different levels of certification are based on the number of points received: certified, silver, gold and platinum. We are currently seeking silver certification through LEED, and if received, we will be the first LEED certified sanctuary in the state of Texas.
What are some environmentally friendly features I will notice in the new sanctuary?
