The Path Less Traveled– Linda Howe

Posted on: October 12th, 2017

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

It was almost a year ago that I anticipated hearing Dr. Lisa Miller, author of The Spiritual Child, speak at Christ United about her research with spirituality and its impact on children. Prior to this, I was on a spiritual journey of my own; a journey to satisfy this “calling” within myself.

I remember listening to Dr. Miller, and suddenly having this epiphany moment. After the presentation, I spoke with Dr. Miller and asked her some questions. I walked to my truck and cried. The Lord, in all His crystal-clear clarity was a light to my path, a path I could not fathom.

Despite the odds being against me, this elementary music teacher who grew up in an extremely modest household on south-side San Antonio was accepted into the Masters program in Clinical Psychology in Education, with an emphasis in Spirituality Mind and Body at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City. The same program that Dr. Lisa Miller founded and currently teaches. It still brings me to tears to think of that moment.

Since being accepted everything else has just fallen into place. It’s like The Lord paving a path right before my very eyes.

There is no doubt of The Lord’s hand on my life. How else could this manifest the way it has? Each day is a new adventure, and while I am still unsure of His big plan for me and this degree, I wait in joyful expectation. I know His plan is greater than anything I could ever imagine! I’m proud to report that I completed my first three classes in New York this summer. I earned a perfect 4.0 GPA at an Ivy League University. I give praise and thanks to The Lord and to Christ United for the mustard seed they planted. Being on this path hasn’t been easy, but with The Lord by my side to guide and protect this path, I need not worry.

I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. – Philippians 4:13
