OBITUARIES (WITH CONSENT)
LYNORE ROBINSON
Lynore, a 37 year resident of Plano, Texas was admired as a kind, gracious lady. She was born Lynore Ann Ward and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. She started her business life as the executive assistant to the owner of the largest department store in Johannesburg. Finally, she decided, as many South Africans do, to tour Europe. While visiting London she met George (Robbie) S. Robinson on a blind date. She extended her stay in London and in 1964 they were married in Johannesburg. They spent the next 20 years with the U.S. Navy in which her husband was a Civil Engineer Corps Officer (Seabees). They lived in numerous places, especially Washington, D.C., California, and Hawaii. While in Washington, Robbie worked in the White House as a White House Fellow giving both of them wonderful access to the highest levels of government and the Washington social life. Also, while in Washington, they adopter their infant daughter, Anthea. While living in Hawaii Captain Robinson and Lynore retired from the Navy after 20 years of service and moved to Plano in 1981 to develop Legacy and work for Ross Perot and Electronic Data Corporation.
Lynore showed her deep character, love, and inner strength when Anthea developed cancer in 1984. It was a long hospitalization that tested and strengthened the family. Anthea died in 1986 at the age of 14. Lynore’s vivacious personality, persistence, stamina, and inner resolve kept the family unity, its love, and its cohesiveness. While at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, they observed the often devastating impact of long tragic illnesses on families. As a result, they endowed the Child Life Center at the Hospital. The goal of the Center is to assist families through difficulty and even tragedy.
Lynore was also active in Anthea’s school, the Navy Relief Society, American Cancer Society’s Gunslinger’s Ball, the board of the Weekend to Wipe Out Cancer, her church where she served as a chalice bearer and usher, and served on the advisory board of CITY House.
She knitted countless scarves and baby blankets for the poor and homeless and for related charities. Her hobbies included modeling, traveling, crossword puzzles, knitting, reading, and gardening. Her travels were truly global from the northern most points of the United States and Europe to Machu Picchu, New Zealand and China, to say nothing of her native Africa. A street near the intersection of Coit and Hedgcoxe is named after her. However, she may be best known by her friends for her gentleness and her infectious laugh.
She is survived by her husband George (Robbie) Robinson of Plano, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Anthea C. Robinson Scholarship at Trinity Christian Academy, 17001 Addison, Texas 75001-5096
