School on Sunday

The School on Sunday Tutoring Program provides free tutoring for all students in grades PreK – 12 from both school districts in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. This free service hopes to help all children have the support and love they need to be exemplary students, and driven leaders. All of our tutors are volunteers who work with children on a 1 to 1 basis to help them have a brighter future.

Support us by:

Volunteering as a Tutor or Substitute Tutor

We need Tutors every Sunday from 1 PM – 3 PM. If you cannot commit to teaching consecutive Sundays, please consider being a substitute! We are happy to have tutors for months of Sundays or just one.

Donate Lunch

Every Sunday members from our congregation tutor children from the Dallas/For Worth area and our Project Hope families. We always make sure that they get a simple  lunch while they are with us.

We need volunteers to provide lunches for 50. These can be as simple as a sack lunch with a peanut butter & jelly sandwich with a bottle of water and piece of fruit, or a crock pot meal or pasta! Christ United provides all the paper goods and eating utensils, if you provide the food and drink. Learning is always easier on a full stomach, please help us provide that for kiddos trying to learn. A small budget is available for reimbursements. These are great projects for Sunday School classes.

Lunch is served at 1 PM and studying starts at 1:30 PM. Join us for lunch or feel free to drop off food starting after the 11 AM service on Sundays.

School Supply Donations

The SOS program stockpiles school supplies for “Giveaway Days” when students can choose items they need to succeed. This includes calendars, pocket folders, spiral notebooks, 3-hole notebook paper, pencils, pens, and backpacks. New and gently-used items are acceptable.

Drop these items off at any time at the Welcome Desk.

Donate Books

New and gently-used books are amazing donations for our young readers. Sometimes we add the books to our resource library for students and tutors to read together on Sunday afternoons. These are also available as a choice on “Giveaway Day,” so that children can take a book home to keep of their very own. Please donate and help us to inspire kids to love reading.

Drop off books at any time at the Welcome Desk.
