Special Angels

We are the mothers, fathers, siblings, care-givers, friends and supporters of children with special needs within our church community. Just like any family, we all have our differences, and like any family we work together to make sure that all of us grow in the light of God’s love. Our “Angels” teach us that wheelchairs are not obstacles to playing in God’s house, that communication disorders do not prevent us from talking to God and that learning differences do not keep us from being students of the Lord.

We work diligently to eliminate the obstacles that prevent families from participating in the programs offered at Christ United. It is our goal to provide a church environment that is safe, nurturing and enjoyable for ALL children.

First Time?

If you are considering joining us on Sunday morning, please contact Meredith McBride. Meredith will be happy to answer any of your questions and make sure that you and your child get the support you need to have a great experience at Christ United.

Check-in

Before proceeding to your child’s classroom, please check-in at one of two computer kiosks located on either side of the welcome desk. You will receive three name badges: place one sticker on your child’s back, give another sticker to the teacher to keep in the classroom, keep the third sticker with you. You will need to show this sticker to the teacher at pick-up time.

Emergency Notifications

The Special Angels staff is encouraged to page parents only when necessary. Should the need arise, your name and your child’s name will show up on the large video screens during worship. If you are paged, please come to your child’s room as quickly as possible. In the event of fire or evacuation, children will be escorted to the southeast corner of the parking lot.

Illness

The welfare of the children under our care is our first priority. If your child becomes ill, you will be notified immediately. Please refrain from bringing your child if he or she has had any of the following symptoms within the past 24 hours: diarrhea, vomiting, fever, rash, or virus. Children who have seen a physician and/or taken antibiotics for 48 hours will be admitted at the discretion of the nursery staff. Please understand that any decision regarding an ill child is made to provide a healthy and comfortable atmosphere for all children, volunteers and staff members.

Our Special Angels Team

On Sunday mornings, both paid staff and volunteers care for our Special Angels. Each worker has completed a background check and received necessary training, including CPR and basic first aid.

If you are interested in volunteering with this ministry or are interested in employment opportunities, please contact Meredith McBride.

Concerns

Our goal is to provide your child with a loving and safe Christian atmosphere. From time to time, concerns do arise. Please inform us of any problems so they may be addressed immediately. If we can assist you in any way, please contact Meredith McBride, Director of Family Ministries.
